Georgia County Officials Attend Wreath Laying Ceremony

Each year, Georgia officials who attend the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference are also invited and encouraged to participate in a very special Georgia event while in Washington, DC.  A custom wreath, bearing 159 red and white carnations that represent all 159 counties in Georgia, is laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by an official four-person Wreath Party.  That party consists of the current ACCG President along with their spouse, plus two other invited county officials.  In addition, all other Georgia attendees to the NACo conference are also invited to make the trip to Arlington National Cemetery in order to witness this ceremony.  This past Sunday, March 1, was the 10th Annual ACCG Wreath Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.  ACCG President Billy Pittard and his wife Missy, along with Commissioner Liz Hausmann of Fulton County and Commissioner Dennis Brown of Forsyth County participated in the wreath laying as members of the four-person wreath party.  Over the years, the consensus from all participants is that they are honored to be included in this most meaningful event.
